Urban design skills appraisal

Capacitycheck

Capacitycheck is a method of appraising and developing urban design skills and is available at www.capacitycheck.co.uk

Capacitycheck assesses the present skills, awareness and understanding of an individual or organisation, or determines what capacity a person, project or organisation requires. It can be used for (and by) councillors, design champions, communities, clients and a wide range of built environment professionals.

The many uses of Capacitycheck include:

  • Benchmarking an organisation’s existing skills
  • Devising training programmes
  • Deciding the coverage of a local authority’s planning policy and guidance
  • Drawing up a job description and person specification
  • Drawing up the brief for an urban design project.

Capacitycheck is sponsored by English Partnerships; CABE; English Heritage; Architecture and Design Scotland; the Improvement Service; Transport for London; and Urban Design London. It has been published by the Urban Design Alliance.

For more information about how Capacitycheck can help you to raise design standards, see www.capacitycheck.co.uk or contact Urban Design Skills, which is managing the initiative.
